It’s an interesting thing, many companies feel they need to own and operate the equipment that runs their software applications. But why?
If we look at the larger successful web-based applications out there we see that having someone else who specializes in running systems, does a dramatically better job than small companies doing it themselves. SalesForce.com is a good example. A great product in multiple levels that has a huge usage base. If they had an option to have you buy it, buy servers, install and configure it, support it locally, why would anyone do that? The answer is that no one would. You’d spend more capital, add support staff, create huge risk without redundancy, and end up with a much poorer level of service.
So why do small companies believe they need to own their own servers when they can use an IVDesk solution to run everything for them? Maybe there are unanswered questions that come to mind:
1. “It’s more secure if I can see the server” – Nope. It’s dramatically less secure since the physical security will be less than the large data center’s security. Less “electronic” security as well since companies don’t spend time and money on more security.
2. “It’s cheaper even if ‘Bob’ has to spend time helping users” – Not true. Bob’s the Accountant, CFO, Operations Manager, or some other staff position and getting paid to do his real job, not answer “How do I do columns in Word” questions. Running servers yourself means capital expense on non-productive assets, additional staff time and resources, limited remote capabilities, large “chunks” of cash going out outside of budget, and an overall frustration level with spending too much money. With IVDesk, it’s all predictable monthly fee per user.
3. “I like running it locally” – You may but it’s really expensive and risky for your business, customers, and compliance needs. You don’t run phone companies, electric companies, other utilities, why run this? It doesn’t make sense anymore.

IVDesk, a completely hosted and cloud based IT service solution for small business, continues to add features and functionality for customers. By adding it’s “Secure Shadow” feature, all customers have the opportunity to quickly see their other employee’s desktops, with approval.
The issue this solves is the struggle with sharing Excel documents, Word documents, and supporting in-house applications. Secure Shadow allows users to connect to other user’s desktops in a secure and managed method to quickly be able to provide desktop sharing. Set up for this is by a group by group basis so that only those who are approved can have this functionality.
Customers are using this to co-edit Excel spreadsheets from different locations, a feature not built into Microsoft Office. This also is used to facilitate training on applications for other locations. Instead of paying for a GoToMeeting license or a WebEx service fee, users can quickly connect to others without additional costs.
This continues to show how IVDesk focuses on both technology and providing remarkable solutions for customers. IVDesk continues to have dramatic growth as small companies move away from the need and desire to own their own equipment and servers. By providing a complete outsourced IT server as a monthly fee per user, IVDesk has moved the IT costs to completely manageable and predictable.
